Munger, Bihar: A community celebration that began with just 5,000 earthen lamps is preparing to reach a remarkable milestone in Kalyanpur, Munger district. On November 7, the village will host a grand Deepotsav featuring 1,111,111 diyas under the initiative Ek Diya Maa Ke Naam, bringing together local residents, devotees and visitors for a large-scale celebration inspired by Ayodhya's famous festival of lights.

The event is planned for Chhoti Diwali and is expected to feature the collective lighting of more than 11 lakh earthen lamps. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is expected to attend and inaugurate the celebration.

While the scale of the event is attracting attention, its most significant feature is the growing participation of the local community. What started as a relatively small religious gathering has gradually developed into a major village-level initiative supported by the devotion and cooperation of residents.

A Small Beginning That Grew into a Major Celebration

Dr. Nitish Chandra Dubey, a member of the organising committee, explained that Kalyanpur's Deepotsav began with approximately 5,000 diyas. As more people became involved over the years, the celebration continued to expand.

This year, the organisers have set an ambitious target of lighting 1,111,111 lamps together. According to Dr. Dubey, the growing participation reflects the strong faith of villagers in Kalyanpur Badi Durga Maharani and their willingness to contribute to the celebration.

The initiative Ek Diya Maa Ke Naam has been designed to encourage residents to bring diyas from their own homes and light them at the event venue. This approach gives individuals and families an opportunity to become active participants in the celebration.

Rather than limiting the occasion to an organised religious programme, the initiative aims to make it a shared experience in which people from different households contribute towards a common purpose.

Supporting Local Artisans and Traditional Occupations

One of the important aspects of the Deepotsav is its connection with local livelihoods. Arranging more than 11 lakh earthen lamps requires substantial sourcing and coordination.

The diyas are being brought from Munger and neighbouring districts, creating demand for the work of local potters and diya makers. Traditional artisans who produce earthen lamps for festivals are expected to benefit from the large-scale requirements of the event.

The organisers have also planned extensive arrangements for lighting the lamps. More than 40,000 litres of sesame oil, pure ghee and cotton wicks will be used during the illumination.

Villagers and committee members are working together to arrange and decorate the lamps. Preparations also include cleaning the venue and organising the surrounding grounds to accommodate the expected gathering.

The initiative therefore brings together religious participation, traditional craftsmanship and community-level cooperation.

Special Ganga Maha Aarti and Fireworks Along the River

The Deepotsav will also include special attractions intended to make the occasion memorable for visitors.

A Ganga Maha Aarti is being organised as part of the celebrations, adding a spiritual dimension to the event. Grand fireworks are also planned along the banks of the Ganga.

For the fireworks arrangements, a specialised team from Delhi is being invited. Dr. Dubey stated that this year's fireworks will follow a theme inspired by large-scale celebrations seen in cricket stadiums.

The organisers expect people from distant places to visit Kalyanpur to witness the illumination, religious rituals and fireworks. These attractions are expected to add to the festive atmosphere surrounding the event.

Cleanliness and Social Unity at the Centre

Apart from religious devotion, the organisers are also highlighting cleanliness and social unity as important objectives of the Deepotsav.

Preparations began nearly a week before the event, with cleaning activities and arrangements taking place throughout the village. Residents and organising committee members are contributing their time and efforts to ensure that the venue is ready for the celebration.

The collective nature of the initiative reflects how cultural and religious occasions can encourage people to work together. From arranging lamps to preparing the venue, the event depends on the participation of many individuals.

For the organisers, the growing scale of the celebration is closely connected with the enthusiasm and cooperation of the villagers.

District Administration Reviews Event Arrangements

Considering the expected gathering and the proposed visit of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the district administration has increased its focus on preparations.

District Magistrate Nikhil Dhanraj Nippanikar and Superintendent of Police Syed Imran Masood visited the event venue along with other officials. They reviewed cleanliness, basic public facilities, access roads and security arrangements.

Necessary instructions were issued to ensure that the required arrangements are completed before November 7.

Kalyanpur Prepares for a Memorable Deepotsav

With 1,111,111 diyas planned, Kalyanpur's Deepotsav is set to be a significant community celebration in Munger district. The journey from 5,000 lamps to more than 11 lakh reflects years of growing participation and the continued commitment of local residents.

Through Ek Diya Maa Ke Naam, the organisers are inviting people to become part of a celebration that brings together faith, tradition, local livelihoods and social cooperation.

As preparations continue, Kalyanpur is looking forward to welcoming devotees and visitors for an evening of illumination, Ganga Maha Aarti and special fireworks on November 7.
